Starting from the Western theorists on the origins of limited government, this article systematically puts in order the origins of three dimensions of the theory of limited government, such as philosophical foundation, political thought and economics, and argues that the western government has partially abandoned the pursuit of “small government” while the forms and means of the government management are being made adjustment by the western countries in order to meet demands of realistic politics in different countries, thus, in some respects the western government even have to tolerate the gradual expansion of government power. Based on this, the argument on the “limited government” and its virtual demands has been reviewed and analyzed, and the author argues that, although the limited government theory can be used on reference in some respects, it is theoretically harmful and practically feasible if this theory is utilized to guide political practices in China. |
