| BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The discipline inspection authorities of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will resolutely strengthen the supervision and investigations on issues of most direct concern to the people and safeguard the interests of the public, according to an annual work report published Sunday. The report was originally delivered on Jan. 8th at the seventh plenary session of the 17th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the CPC by He Guoqiang, secretary of the CCDI. At grassroots levels, more efforts should be devoted in investigating corruptions and malpractice, as well as improving law enforcement activities and public services, according to He. He also proposed special campaigns to root out corruption in key areas, such as the construction sector, government-funded events and the use of public vehicles. Moreover, He asked the discipline inspection authorities to strengthen supervision of the implementation of the country's major policies, including the shifting economic development pattern, protecting farmlands, promoting culture sectors and social managements. In terms of mechanism innovations, He stressed greater transparency in public affairs, better protection of witnesses and employment of newly emerged social media in fighting corruption. In addition, He called on personnel of the Party's discipline inspection agencies to be fully aware of the "harsh situation" of the fight against corruption and have faith in winning that battle. He's report also revealed that 142,893 officials were punished for disciplinary violations last year, 5,334 of whom were referred for criminal investigations. |
